Choosing the right AC system for a home in Cut Off is not the same decision as it is in most of the country. Two climate factors define every AC installation recommendation Martin's Heating and Air makes for this part of Louisiana. The first is heat: outdoor temperatures from June through September regularly push into the low to mid-90s, and with the coastal humidity, heat index values frequently exceed 100 to 105 degrees. The second is latent heat, the moisture that South Louisiana's coastal air carries. An AC system that cycles on and off quickly for temperature control never runs long enough to remove meaningful humidity from the indoor air.
Martin's Heating and Air has been making installation recommendations for homes in Cut Off and the surrounding South Lafourche and Terrebonne communities since 1967, through every climate condition this coastal parish produces.

Central AC with gas or electric furnace. A traditional split-system central AC installation is the right fit for homes with existing ductwork in good condition and a heating system that still has serviceable life remaining. The outdoor condensing unit and indoor evaporator coil are matched to a furnace or air handler. This is the most straightforward replacement path when the existing equipment fails, and the ductwork does not need modification.
Louisiana is in the U.S. Department of Energy's Southern climate zone. New split-system AC installations in Louisiana must meet a minimum efficiency of SEER2 15.0 as of January 1, 2023. Martin's installs systems at or above this standard on every job.
Heat pump system. A heat pump provides both cooling in summer and heating in winter from the same equipment, using refrigerant instead of combustion. Louisiana's mild winters, where temperatures in Cut Off rarely fall below the low 30s, keep heat pump heating efficiency high throughout the heating season. For homes where the furnace is also aging or where the homeowner wants to reduce gas usage, a heat pump replacement often makes more sense than a traditional central AC installation.
Ductless mini split. For homes without existing ductwork, for room additions, for sunrooms and converted spaces, or for homes where the existing duct system is too compromised to cost-effectively repair, a ductless mini split delivers zoned cooling and heating without any duct modification. mini split installation
Martin's Heating and Air installs all three system types throughout Cut Off and South Lafourche Parish. Before any equipment is recommended, our technicians assess the home's existing ductwork, the condition of the heating system, the specific rooms to be served, and the homeowner's energy and budget goals. No recommendation is made until those factors are understood.
"They were here within a day to give us an estimate. Highly professional, we were so impressed. This was on a Friday come Tuesday they were here installing a new unit..."

Step 1: Load Calculation and System Selection. The technician calculates the home's actual cooling load before recommending any equipment. In a South Louisiana home, the load calculation accounts for the extreme sensible heat load (outdoor temperatures) and the latent heat load (coastal humidity) that must be removed to achieve genuine indoor comfort. Square footage, ceiling height, insulation levels, window area and orientation, duct condition, and the local climate zone are all inputs to this calculation. Equipment options at the Louisiana minimum efficiency standard and at higher-efficiency tiers are presented with projected operating cost differences.
Step 2: Written Estimate Before Any Work. A written estimate covering all equipment, labor, and scope is provided before any commitment is made. No installation begins without your written authorization.
Step 3: Old Equipment Removal. Existing outdoor condensing unit and indoor air handler are removed and disposed of as part of the installation scope. Refrigerant is recovered in compliance with EPA Section 608 requirements before disconnection.
Step 4: Installation. New outdoor unit set on a level pad with correct clearances. Indoor air handler installed with refrigerant lines connected, pressure-tested, and charged to manufacturer specifications. All electrical connections verified at the disconnect and panel.
Step 5: Duct Inspection. For installations that reuse existing ductwork, the duct system is inspected and leaking connections are sealed. Leaky ductwork running through South Louisiana's unconditioned attic, where summer temperatures can reach 130 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit, loses a significant portion of conditioned air before it reaches the living space. Duct sealing is one of the highest-value steps in a South Louisiana installation.
Step 6: Performance Verification. See the section below.
"I had a great experience with these guys working on our equipment. Dexter is one of the best guys I know in that area. Look forward to them continuing to work on any of the needs that we have on equipment or electrical work."

Martin's Heating and Air does not consider any installation complete until the new system is confirmed to be operating correctly under load. After installation, refrigerant pressures on both the high side and low side are measured against the manufacturer's specification for the current outdoor temperature. Amperage draw at the compressor and blower motor is verified against the nameplate rating.
Temperature differential at the supply registers is measured; a correctly installed and sized system delivers 16 to 22 degrees Fahrenheit of differential under normal load. You receive a written installation record covering all equipment installed, all measurements taken, and warranty terms before the technician leaves.
"Had a small issue with the AC unit that was installed in April 2024. Martin's showed up within 15 minutes of the service call. Fixed the problem in under 10 minutes. Repair was not covered by warranty but they did not charge me anything..."

Martin's Heating and Air installs central AC systems, heat pumps, and ductless mini splits throughout Cut Off, Galliano, Golden Meadow, Larose, Lockport, Thibodaux, Houma, and the surrounding South Lafourche and Terrebonne communities. Every installation begins with a load calculation sized for the specific home and South Louisiana's coastal climate. Every system is tested under operating load before the technician leaves.

Should I install central AC, a heat pump, or a ductless mini split in my Cut Off home? The right answer depends on your existing ductwork, the condition of your heating system, and your energy goals. A traditional central AC is the right fit when ductwork is in good condition and a separate heating system has years of life remaining. A heat pump makes more sense when the heating system is also aging, or when you want to reduce gas usage; Louisiana's mild winters keep heat pump efficiency high year-round. A ductless mini split is the right choice when there is no ductwork to work with, or for specific rooms a central system does not adequately serve. Martin's will assess your home and explain the trade-offs for each option. mini split installation
What efficiency rating is required for new AC installations in Louisiana? Louisiana is in the DOE Southern climate zone. New split-system AC installations must meet a minimum efficiency of SEER2 15.0 as of January 1, 2023. Martin's installs at or above this standard and explains the projected operating cost difference between minimum-efficiency and higher-efficiency options.
How does Martin's size the AC system for my home? A heat load calculation that accounts for square footage, ceiling height, insulation, window area and orientation, duct condition, and South Louisiana's coastal climate, both the sensible heat load and the latent humidity load. Correct sizing is the most important factor in how the system performs over its service life.
Does Martin's remove my old AC system? Yes. Removal and disposal of the existing equipment is included in the installation scope. Refrigerant is recovered per EPA Section 608 requirements before any disconnection.
